Happy Scrapbooking Day!

embellish corners of smoothfoam scrapbook sheet

This weekend people all over the world will be cropping and celebrating the art of preserving memories during International Scrapbooking Day, the first Saturday of May. It was started in 1994 by Creative Memories as National Scrapbooking Day and it has grown every year since.

Smoothfoam has a scrapbook page mount (12″x12″x 7/8″) that makes a perfect foundation and frame for displaying your favorite layouts. You can paint the edges with 1 or 2 coats of acrylic craft paint, or wrap and decoupage the edges with paper or fabric.

Smoothfoam takes regular craft glue well too – you can adhere your layout right to the surface. If you want to regularly change out the pages for display, use tacks or straight pins to attach them to the foam mount instead.

It’s lightweight – great for hanging a mosaic of scrapbook pages over the bed or baby’s crib (I live on an earthquake fault line, so I’m always nervous about sleeping with a heavy framed picture above my head, lol). Just pin or glue a little loop of ribbon on the back and you’re set!

It’s fun to embellish the textured edges to create a decorative frame – this photo shows four different corner treatments…try inserting brads or straight pins, glue and glitter, adhesive pearls and rhinestones, or even washi tape!
