This sweet little cell phone pouch was one of our Make & Take projects that we shared in our booth at the 2014 Craft & Hobby Association Mega Show. So many “tweets” that come from attendees sharing what they see on the show floor is what inspired my design! This cute pounch is handy for other items too, and is easy enough for older children to make. It would make a cute sweet treat bag for Valentine’s Day!
You will need:
2” Smoothfoam ball, cut in half
Kunin Classic Felt – Candy Pink, Brilliant Blue, Flower
Buttons in assorted colors
3/8” wide ribbon
Scissors, craft knife
4” circle template
1. To create the bird embellishment, cut a 4” circle from blue felt. Cut two 2” hearts from the flower felt for wings. Cut two petal shapes for feet and a ¼” triangle for the beak from the orange felt. For the bag, cut a 6″ x 9″ piece of pink felt plus some flowers.
2. Place the half-ball, round side down, in the center of the blue felt circle. Bring the circle edge up over flat side of the ball and secure with glue, holding in place for 5 seconds. Then bring the opposite edge of the circle up and glue. Fold and tuck the rest of the fabric snugly and glue it to the ball; let dry.
3. Fold the 6″ x 9″ pink felt in half to 4-1/2″ x 6″. Glue two sides, leaving the top open. Cut a length of ribbon long enough to hang the pouch around your neck and glue each end of the ribbon into the inside top corners of the pouch.
4. Glue piece of ribbon across bottom front of the pouch and add buttons. Glue the points of the heart wings to the back of the ball. Center the ball on the pouch and glue in place. Glue on his feet, beak and a stack of buttons for each eye. Glue flowers to the ribbon strap.
